UGA asks to form raid transshipment to all Danube ports of Ukraine

Back to all news

The Ukrainian grain association appealed to the government of Ukraine with a request to form raid transshipment at all seaports of the Danube region and to grant the status of the Danube River as an inland waterway E-80-09 in accordance with the European Agreement on the Most Important Inland Waterways of International Importance.

According to the UGA, such steps will significantly increase cargo handling capacity in the Danube ports and reduce logistics costs.

UGA reminded that urgent problems in terms of stimulating investment attraction to increase the transshipment capacity of these ports remain unresolved at the moment. In particular, the external ramps of the Izmail and Reni seaports have not been established, which does not allow the operators of these ports to take advantage of transshipment at the external ramps of the seaports, in particular for large vessels of the “Panamax” type. Also, the issue of defining the Danube River as an inland waterway has not yet been resolved.
