As of May 12, farmers of all categories have sown 3 784 thsd ha of spring grains and pulses, which represents 63% of the forecasted areas. Over the week, the sowing campaign advanced by almost 1,2 mln ha.
This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine.
The largest area is traditionally occupied by corn — currently 2,4 mln ha have been sown. In addition, spring wheat — 179,1 thsd ha; spring barley — 704,2 thsd ha; peas — 256,2 thsd ha; oats — 136,5 thsd ha; buckwheat — 7,6 thsd ha; millet — 11,1 thsd ha have been planted.
Farmers in eight regions have already started sowing buckwheat. At present, 7,58 thsd ha have been planted with the crop.
The highest sowing rates for grains and legumes are demonstrated by farmers in Poltava, Kirovohrad, Vinnytsia, and Zhytomyr regions.
Sowing of industrial crops is also ongoing. In total, 3 666,4 thsd ha have been sown. In particular, sugar beet — 187,2 thsd ha (95%), sunflower — 2 595,8 thsd ha (52%), soybeans — 883,4 thsd ha (43%).
