Ukraine sows 94% of planned grain crops

As of May 25, Ukrainian farmers across all categories have sown 5.64 million hectares of grain and legume crops, reaching 94% of the planned area, according to the Ministry of Economy. The spring sowing campaign is approaching its final stage, with most key crops already planted.

The largest share is made up of corn, which accounts for more than 4.15 million hectares. Other significant crops include barley (709,900 ha), spring wheat (185,700 ha), peas (258,200 ha), oats (137,000 ha), buckwheat (37,600 ha), and millet (32,200 ha).

Among regions, Poltava Oblast leads in total planted area with 590,800 hectares, followed closely by Chernihiv Oblast with 550,300 hectares and Cherkasy Oblast with 403,200 hectares. These regions remain the backbone of Ukraine’s grain production, particularly in corn cultivation.

In addition to grains and legumes, Ukrainian farmers have also sown 6.27 million hectares of industrial crops. Sugar beet planting has reached 186,300 hectares (95% of the forecast), sunflower covers 4.34 million hectares (87%), and soybean area totals 1.74 million hectares (85%).

Officials note that the current sowing progress reflects a stable agricultural season despite ongoing challenges. Completing the remaining 6% of planned grain and legume planting is expected in the coming days, while attention is shifting toward crop maintenance and early growth conditions.
