Experts from the Organization of European Grain Traders (COCERAL) have lowered their forecast for grain production in the UK and the EU in 2025 from 297.8 to 296.1 million tonnes compared to December estimates, which will significantly exceed last year’s 278.2 million tonnes.
Wheat production is expected to reach 125.1 million tonnes (137.2 million tonnes in 2024) due to increased soft wheat plantings and a recovery in yields in Western Europe. However, lower-than-expected winter wheat plantings in France and the UK could affect the final harvest.
The forecast for barley production has been reduced from 59.7 to 58.8 million tons (57.8 million tons in 2024), and corn production has been increased from 61.9 to 63.3 (58.9) million tons. In the countries of the Balkan Peninsula, corn production will increase significantly compared to last year, while in France and Germany it will decrease.
Rapeseed production in the EU and the UK is forecast to recover from 18 million tonnes in 2024 to 20 million tonnes in 2025, driven by a return to normal cropping patterns in Romania and Bulgaria and improved yields in France and Germany.
