Soybean and grain shipments to Argentina’s ports are declining amid truck driver protests

According to Argentina’s Grain Export Center, operations at the grain ports of Bahía Blanca and Necochea were paralyzed on Tuesday due to protests by independent truckers.

Truck drivers have been protesting grain transport fees in recent days.

They claim that current tariffs do not cover the cost of diesel fuel, toll roads, and maintenance, despite diesel prices having risen nearly 30% this year.

Professional organizations, including the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange, have warned of logistics delays, disruptions to the flow of goods, and complications in commercial and export operations caused by the protests.

“The situation is unsustainable: ships are not calling in Argentina to load cargo, so the economic damage to the entire grain and oilseed value chain is enormous,” stated the Grain Exporters Center at X.

The Rosario port area, through which over 80% of the country’s grain exports pass, is operating without problems.

Last week, the Rosario Grain Exchange raised its corn harvest forecast to a record 67 million tons.

Argentina is the world’s largest exporter of soybean oil and soybean meal.
