IGС raises forecast for world grain production in 2025/26

Back to all news

The International Grains Council (IGC) has raised its forecast for global grain opening stocks and production in the 2025/2026 season.

The harvest is expected to be 2,373 million tonnes (2,368 million tonnes in the current season), including 806 (807) million tonnes of wheat and 1,274 (1,269) million tonnes of corn.

The global consumption forecast has also been revised upwards, by 7 million tonnes to a record 2,373 million tonnes, mainly due to a revision in industrial consumption (for ethanol production) in India.

The volume of global trade may increase to 424 (418) million tonnes. However, it will be below the five-year average amid muted interest in grain purchases from China.

Carry-over grain stocks next season will remain at the current season’s level – 580 million tons.
