Winter grain crops in Ukraine had been sown on 171.6 thousand hectares

As of September 16, winter grain crops in Ukraine had been sown on 171.6 thousand hectares, or 3.3% of the forecast area (5.211 million hectares), according to operational data from the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.

The largest areas had been sown in Poltava (46.1 thousand hectares), Chernihiv (18.6 thousand hectares) and Dnipropetrovsk (14.4 thousand hectares) regions.

It should be noted that as of September 15 last year, the area sown to winter grain crops in Ukraine was estimated at 262.6 thousand hectares, or 4.8% of the planned area.

In particular, as of the reporting date this year, the following areas had been sown:

  • winter wheat – 145.3 thousand hectares, or 3.2% of the forecast area (4.541 million hectares);
  • winter barley – 13 thousand hectares, or 2.2% of the forecast area (593.8 thousand hectares);
  • winter rye – 13.3 thousand hectares, or 17.3% of the forecast area (76.7 thousand hectares).

In addition, winter rapeseed sowing is also progressing at a brisk pace, with 837.1 thousand hectares sown, or 75.7% of the forecast area. The largest sown areas are reported in Kirovohrad (100.5 thousand hectares), Odesa (98.2 thousand hectares) and Vinnytsia (75.7 thousand hectares) regions.

As of September 15, 2025, winter rapeseed had been sown on 790.9 thousand hectares in Ukraine, or 71% of the forecast area.
