Ukraine harvests first 1 mln tons of new-crop grain

The harvest of early grain crops has begun in 15 regions of Ukraine. Farmers are harvesting wheat, barley, peas, and rapeseed.

As of July 3, producers in the Vinnytsia, Volyn, Dnipropetrovsk, Zakarpattia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kirovohrad, Lviv, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Poltava, Rivne, Ternopil, Kherson, Khmelnytskyi, and Chernivtsi regions had harvested 251.4 thsd ha and produced the country’s first 1 mln tons of new-crop grain.

Harvest results to date include:

  • Wheat (winter and spring): 264.6 thsd tons from 64.13 thsd ha (2% of the forecast area), with an average yield of 4.13 t/ha;
  • Barley (winter and spring): 719.4 thsd tons from 171.6 thsd ha (14%), with an average yield of 4.19 t/ha;
  • Peas: 35.11 thsd tons from 15.6 thsd ha (6.5%), with an average yield of 2.25 t/ha.

Farmers have also started harvesting rapeseed, collecting the first 2.68 thsd tons from 1.22 thsd ha.

The largest grain volumes have been harvested in the Odesa region with 389 thsd tons and the Mykolaiv region with 347 thsd tons.

The highest average yields have been recorded in:

  • Ternopil region — 7.6 t/ha;
  • Lviv region — 6.8 t/ha;
  • Khmelnytskyi region — 6.8 t/ha;
  • Chernivtsi region — 6.5 t/ha.
