France harvested over 33 million tons of wheat

Back to all news

According to independent pricing agency Argus, in 2025, despite a reduction in the area sown, France harvested 33.4 million tons of wheat, which significantly exceeds the 2024 harvest (25.6 million tons) and is close to the 5-year average. Thanks to good spring weather, the yield exceeded the 5-year average by 7% and amounted to 7.44 tons/ha.

The increase in supply is making export sales difficult amid a global oversupply, even despite the high quality of the grain. Traditionally, France exports about half of its wheat crop, mostly to non-EU countries.

But now major markets have shrunk. Algeria has stopped buying French wheat since 2023 due to diplomatic tensions, and another major buyer, China, has sharply reduced grain imports. Strong competition on the world market is forcing French wheat sellers to lower prices.

According to Argus forecasts, in the 2025/26 MY, France will export only 7.7 million tons of wheat, of which 2.5 million tons to Morocco and 2.4 million tons to sub-Saharan Africa.

Despite active exports at the beginning of the season, final stocks, according to experts, will grow to 4 million tons, which will be the highest figure in over 20 years.
