Winter crop conditions in Ukraine can only be assessed after warming

Back to all news

The condition of winter crops in Ukraine and the impact of weather conditions can only be objectively assessed after temperatures rise and vegetation resumes, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture Taras Vysotskyi said.

“At this stage, which is typical for this time of year, no active fieldwork is being carried out. In some cases, mineral fertilizers may be applied, but this is not critical at the moment and can be done later. Crops are in a dormant state and are waiting for vegetation to resume,” Vysotskyi explained.

He added that the corn harvest has not yet been fully completed, but this is also not considered critical, as harvesting can resume once weather conditions improve.

Regarding the impact of weather on winter crop vegetation, Vysotskyi noted that the situation varies by region, snow cover, and temperature levels. However, it is still too early to draw conclusions on a nationwide scale.

“Everything is quite individual. The impact may be negative, or it may not be. An objective assessment will be possible in spring, and in some regions as early as late February, after warming and the resumption of vegetation. We are closely monitoring the situation and collecting information, hoping that the combination of weather factors will not have a critical impact,” the deputy minister said.
