Ukrainian farmers to slightly increase wheat and barley acreage in 2026 – UGA

In 2026, the total area sown with grains and oil crops in Ukraine will amount to about 21.2 mln ha, roughly in line with last year’s figure (21.6 mln ha). This forecast was announced by the Ukrainian Grain Association, delo.ua reports.

According to the UGA, a reduction in acreage could be influenced by problems with export logistics for grains and oil crops, the availability of mineral fertilizers, weather conditions, and overall global supply of a particular crop on the world market.

“Of course, the loss of territories as a result of hostilities also affects the areas that farmers can sow,” the association added.

In particular, the UGA forecasts that this year the total area under key grain crops (wheat, corn, barley) will remain almost unchanged at 11.05 mln ha, compared with 10.815 mln ha in 2025. At the same time, wheat and barley acreage may show growth, while corn could lose a small share of area.

The association expects that in the new season wheat acreage will be approximately at last year’s level, with a slight increase to 5.25 mln ha, compared with 5 mln ha last season. Barley will be sown on 1.4 mln ha, slightly above last year’s 1.315 mln ha.

At the same time, corn in Ukraine this year may be planted on about 4.4 mln ha, compared with 4.5 mln ha a year earlier.
