Ukraine maintains leadership in sunflower oil supplies to the EU

Back to all news

Ukraine has retained its position as the leading supplier of sunflower oil to the European Union.

This was reported by the German Union for the Promotion of Plant and Protein Development (UFOP), OFI writes.

According to the European Commission (EC), from July 2025 to February 2026, the EU-27 imported about 1.04 million tons of sunflower oil, which is less than 1.28 million tons for the same period of the previous year.

Of this amount, Ukraine sent 0.95 million tons of sunflower oil to the EU. According to a study by Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft, this accounted for almost 92% of the market. However, supplies are significantly lower than the previous year’s level (1.2 million tons) due to a reduction in raw materials.

According to the report, Ukraine’s sunflower seed harvest is estimated to have declined from 13 million tonnes in 2024 to 10.5 million tonnes in 2025, with the lower harvest leading to reduced processing volumes and limiting the country’s sunflower oil export potential. In addition, Russian attacks on port infrastructure have put pressure on logistics, although market reports indicated that export flows have stabilized.

Moldova and Serbia became the second and third largest suppliers of sunflower oil to the EU, with a market share of 5% and just under 2%, respectively.

While volumes from Moldova increased year-on-year, supplies from Serbia remained well below the previous year’s level.
