The Kakhovka Reservoir supplied water to more than 0.5 mln ha of agricultural land, therefore, after the destruction of the hydroelectric power station, the problem of irrigation will become the biggest in agriculture, as well as in the ecological and social spheres, in the South of Ukraine. Stated Mykola Solskyi, the minister of agrarian policy and food of Ukraine, on the Yedyni Novyny telethon, the ministry’s press service reported on June 9.
“The consequences of stopping irrigation are much bigger. One and a half million hectares will not be used to their full extent. Now the water level has fallen, so water simply does not reach the systems. In order to raise it, we need to restore the dam,” said Solskyi.
According to him, it will take 3-5-7 years to restore irrigation. And this should become a priority.
