Middle East Grains&Oils Congress

After a difficult “quarantine” 2020 year, APK-Inform continues the tradition started as far back as 2006 and announces the international conference Middle East Grains&Oils Congress in the largest city of the Middle East and the third largest African city – Cairo.

The event will take place on September 30, 2021 in compliance with all necessary sanitary standards.

From GRAINS to OILSEEDS!

Being the largest wheat importer not only among the MENA countries, but also in the world, Egypt will again raise the foreign purchases of wheat in the next season. It will import 13.2 mln tonnes (+2% per year) of the grain according to USDA due to the expected increase of wheat food consumption to 19.8 mln tonnes (+2%) amid the growing population.

In the current season, according to USDA estimates, Egypt’s share of wheat imports is 29% among MENA countries and is about 7% globally. Moreover, the country is also increasing its own wheat production due to the growing population, which requires the country to develop this industry.

Moreover, Egypt is interesting for Ukraine and Russia not only as one of the main grain markets, but also as a country with high potential in the sectors of soybeans and edible oils.

Due to the growing domestic demand amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Egypt have been increasing imports of soybeans and sunflower oil over the past few years. In 2020/21 MY, it will purchase 4.7 mln tonnes of soybeans and 300 thsd tonnes of sunflower oil (USDA estimates) that can be a record.
