International Scientific and Practical Conference «SOILS IN CHALLENGING CONDITIONS: DEGRADATION, RESTORATION AND INNOVATION FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE», dedicated to World Soil Day 2025
Date: November 27, 2025
Venue: Zoom
Working languages: English, Ukrainian
Organizer: State Institution “Soils Protection Institute of Ukraine”
The purpose of the conference is to discuss pressing issues of soil degradation, methods of soil restoration, and the implementation of innovative approaches to ensure the sustainable development of the agricultural sector.
Topics and areas of focus:
War and soil – challenges and ways to restore: the impact of military operations on the physical, chemical, and biological properties of soil; assessment of environmental damage and soil degradation, soil monitoring in areas of military operations
Soil and climate: adaptation of agroecosystems to changes: soil surveys; the role of soils in carbon sequestration and climate regulation; preservation of soil fertility, considering carbon status assessment; climate-adaptive practices in agriculture
Regenerative agriculture and soil health: soil microbiome as the basis of fertility; biologization of agriculture: compost, green manure, biological products; restoration of degraded soils using ecological methods
Digital monitoring and modeling of soils: geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing, satellite monitoring; Big Data, AI, and neural networks in soil science; soil degradation maps/global databases
International cooperation, policy, and standards: global and regional initiatives (FAO, UNCCD, EU Soil Mission) and their implementation in Ukraine; implementation of European directives on soil monitoring and protection; prospects for Ukraine’s inclusion in the European soil monitoring system
