Ukraine’s winter grain sowing campaign has begun, according to operational data from the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.
As of September 1, a total of 10.1 thousand hectares had been sown across Ukraine, accounting for 0.3% of the planned 3.877 million hectares. The projected area is almost 300 thousand hectares below last year’s figure, when 4.045 million hectares were sown with grains.
In particular, 8.9 thousand hectares of winter wheat had been sown in the Ivano-Frankivsk and Kherson regions as of that date, or 0.3% of the 3.341 million hectares planned nationwide.
In addition, 0.7 thousand hectares of winter barley had been sown, or 0.1% of the planned 491 thousand hectares, while winter rye accounted for 0.5 thousand hectares, or 1.1% of the projected 45.7 thousand hectares.
It is also worth noting that as of early September 2025, Ukraine had not yet begun sowing winter crops.
The ministry also released the first operational data on winter rapeseed sowing. As of September 1, 445.3 thousand hectares had been sown with the crop, representing 47.7% of the projected 933.8 thousand hectares.
