Ukraine is poised to export up to 50 mln tonnes of grains and oilseeds from the 2023 harvest, along with approximately 10 mln tonnes of oil and meal. This forecast was disclosed on December 6 by Mykola Gorbachov, the president of the Ukrainian Grain Association, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
“Our initial plan was to export around 5 mln tonnes per month, but the first four months of the season did not align with this projection. Despite our efforts, we faced challenges in increasing shipments via the Danube ports, which typically handled 3.5-3.7 mln tonnes monthly. The introduction of the “grain corridor” at the Great Odesa ports signals a positive shift in potential. It is possible to dispatch 3-4 mln tonnes per month exclusively through the ports of Great Odesa,” highlighted the expert.
Cumulatively, considering both the sea corridor and the western borders, Ukraine is poised to export approximately 6 mln tonnes of grain each month, as per the calculations made by the President of UGA. This substantial achievement was already realized in November.
“We will be able to work more, slightly increase exports and, I think, technically, it will be realistic to supply 50 mln tonnes of grain and oilseeds to foreign markets,” M. Gorbachov noted.
He also added that Ukraine will produce another 10 mln tonnes of processed products during the current MY, including oil and meal.
“We will sell most of the grain and manufactured products. For us, this is more than 50% of the country’s currency revenue, which stabilizes the hryvnia. I think that the state does not have much of a choice: either the crop will rot, or it is better to sell it. Of course, it is better to sell,” said the president of UGA and expressed confidence that traders will cope with this task if the military ensures the safety of shipping at the current level.
