Prolongation of “grain agreement” solves problem of export of 2022 Ukrainian crop – Vysotsky

Back to all news

The prolongation of the “grain agreement” for 120 days solves the problem of the physical export of the current year’s Ukrainian harvest, which exceeds the domestic consumption need. However, the possibility of extending the grain corridor for a year is critically important for the development of the domestic agricultural sector, the First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Taras Vysotsky stated during a panel discussion organized by the European Business Association.

“In the spring, we counted how much grain there was in the stocks and there was a threat that it would be wasted. With the extension of the grain agreement, this threat is minimal. Thanks to the grain initiative, we reached the pre-war export volumes up to 7 mln tonnes in autumn”, – T. Vysotsky said.

He also emphasized that currently it is very important to provide the possibility for farmers to successfully carry out spring field works. Since less winter crops were planted compared to last year, the spring planting campaign will be important and fundamental.

“For farmers to continue actively planting their fields, functioning of the maritime logistics is critical. We are working for future to ensure stable activity, and this will be the main signal for the Ukrainian agricultural sector”, – the First Deputy Minister emphasized.
