China’s grain production expected to rise in 2025

Back to all news

China’s grain and tuber output is expected to further expand in 2025 after a record 706.5 million tonnes harvested last year, and strengthen its capacity to secure supplies of grains and other key agricultural products, according to a report released by the Agricultural Forecasting Expert Council of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs on Sunday.

Grain and tuber output is expected to reach 709 million tonnes in 2025, driven by efforts to increase yields per unit area on a large scale and farmers’ growing enthusiasm for grain production.

Soybean output is forecast to rise 2.5 percent year-on-year to 21.17 million tonnes in 2025.

It is noted that imports of key agricultural products will decline as domestic production rises and consumption growth slows.

In addition, the report predicts that China will achieve a breakthrough in agricultural productivity in the coming decade. The comprehensive grain production capacity is expected to improve, as well as the ability to mitigate and overcome the major risks and challenges facing the industry.
