Ukraine planted spring crops throughout 1.3 mln ha — Ministry for Development of Economy

As of April 2, Ukraine planted spring agricultural crops throughout the areas of 1.3 mln ha, or 9% of the forecast, declared the Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture.

In particular, the areas under wheat reached 101 thsd ha, barley — 714 thsd ha, oats — 77 thsd ha, and corn — 37 thsd ha. The planted areas under peas totaled 299 thsd ha.

Also, all categories of Ukrainian agricultural households planted sunflower seed throughout 91 thsd ha.

In addition, Ukrainian agrarians planted sugar beet throughout 24 thsd ha.

According to the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, in terms of the long-term failure of rain, the conditions for formation of sprouts and development of the areas under early grains and pulses, especially in southern oblasts, were mostly unfavourable, but not critical yet. As for winter grains, the overwintering period was passed successfully, the content of productive moisture in the soil throughout most fields was quite sufficient for the standard development of crops, which is the favourable factor for the future harvest, the press-service of the Ministry added.
