Ukraine: in January-March, the seaports increased grain shipment volumes — USPA

In the first quarter of 2019, the general cargo turnover in the seaports of Ukraine increased by 12.4% compared with the same period last year, or up 4.1 mln tonnes, and totaled nearly 37 mln tonnes, declared the State Enterprise Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA).

In particular, the transshipment of export cargoes totaled over 28 mln tonnes (up 20.8%). At the same time, the shipment volumes of grain cargoes totaled over 10 mln tonnes.

Also, the transshipment of import cargoes decreased by 6.1% compared with the same period in 2018, and totaled 5.2 mln tonnes.

Since the beginning of the planting campaign of spring grains, the imports of both packaged and bulk chemical and mineral fertilizers continued increasing. In the first quarter of 2019, the general volume of their transshipment totaled almost 640 thsd tonnes, up more than twice compared with the same period last year.

Generally, in the reporting period the Ukrainian seaports processed 2.8 thsd vessels, down 15 ship entries compared with January-March of 2018.
