Ukraine: in January-August, the seaports increased grain shipment volumes — USPA

For 8 months of 2019, the general cargo turnover in the seaports of Ukraine increased by 18.8% compared with the same period last year, and totaled 100.76 mln tonnes, declared the State Enterprise Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA).

In the beginning of the current year, in January 2019 the growth rates were quite — 3.4%. But the gradual and steady upward rates allowed reaching almost 19% in August 2019. Therefore, in the current year the seaports managed to overcame the milestone mark of 100 mln tonnes in the late summer. Whereas last year, the ports reached the figures in October only, the USPA explained.

In particular, the transshipment of export cargoes in the seaports totaled over 76.62 mln tonnes (up 24.3%). At the same time, the shipment volumes of grain cargoes totaled 33.5 mln tonnes (up 42.2%).

Also, the transshipment of import cargoes increased by 8.1% compared with the same period in 2018, and totaled 15.92 mln tonnes.

Generally, in the reporting period the Ukrainian seaports processed 7761 vessels, up 0.3% or 26 ship entries compared with January-August of 2018.
