Government approves members of the Supervisory Board of SE Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine at its meeting on January 6 approved the candidates of independent members and the representatives of the state on the Supervisory Board of the State Enterprise “Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority” (hereinafter – SE “USPA”). In particular, the Government appointed Hurtienne Wolfgang (Germany), Jan Van Shoonhoven (the Nertherlands), Patrick Verhoeven, (Belgium) and Yuliya Klimenko as independent  members of the Supervisory Board. Anton Yashchenko , Dmytro Barinov anf Taras Trotsky were appointed as representatives of the state.

Minister of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Olexandr Saienko, who is a member of the Committee for the appointment of heads of enterprises that are of particular importance to the economy, presented winners of the competitive selection of candidates for the position of an independent member of the supervisory board of SE “USPA”.

“Today, the Government approved the appointment of the Supervisory Board of SE “USPA” selected by the Committee for the appointment. The Supervisory Boards includes four independent candidates and three representatives of the state. This is another important step in reform of corporate governance! , the Minister stressed.

Independent evaluation of candidates was carried out by the international executive search firm Boyden Global Executive Search.

It should be noted that the selection for the Position of an Independent Member of the Supervisory Board of the SE “USPA” was announced on October 11, 2018. 85 candidates submitted applications for participation in the competition, of which 46 were Ukrainians and 39 were foreigners.

Following the renewal in March 2018 of the structure and mechanism of work of the the Committee for the appointment, independent supervisory boards were formed at such state-owned enterprises as Ukrzaliznytsya, Ukrenergo, and Ukrposhta. A newly formed independent supervisory board for SE “Prozorro. Sales” has been recently created. The selection of candidates for the Supervisory Board of the International Airport “Boryspil” is being wrapped up.

Involvement of independent members in the supervisory boards of state-owned enterprises is in line with the international practice and recommendations of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development which are followed by most developed and developing countries.
